Flashback...

Flashback to an impactful moment on 28 March 2024 when Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, was formally appointed as both the Global and National TB Champion. Held at the State House Conference Hall in Aso Villa Abuja, the event gathered key stakeholders, including the National TB Programme, partners, Wives of the 36 State Governors, past first ladies, and other dignitaries. Also present were the wife of the Vice President and wives of State Governors, who were appointed as State TB Champions.

During the investiture ceremony, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Ali Pate, emphasized the crucial role of social determinants of health in ending TB in Nigeria. The occasion was marked by significant pledges, including the First Lady’s donation of N1bn towards Nigeria’s TB fight. Notably, the Honorable Minister of State Police Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, bravely shared her story as a TB survivor, underscoring the personal impact of the disease.

This event, orchestrated by the National TB Programme in collaboration with the Stop TB Partnership, signifies a strategic push for heightened TB advocacy and engagement with state governments. It aims to foster stronger collaboration and renewed determination to eliminate TB across Nigeria.
